Ideas for Lucy's Room
Before we moved, I had started to update Lucy's nursery to a big girl room. Her new room is massively bigger than her old little slanted space, so I want to take what I started at the old house and basically add to it. The bed, rainbow stacking toy, fawn night light, cloud mobile, wall dot decals, and baby animal artwork, and pillows were all in her former bedroom. It looked like this:
For the new room, we need new curtains (the ceilings are a lot taller on our second floor than at our former house), a new rug (bigger floor space!), a bigger dresser, and a few more accessories. We can thankfully fit the beautiful glider that we got from RH Baby & Child up our new stairs (the old ones were such a problem!), so that will be in the space as well. She's still (and will always be!) my baby, and she still loves to rock with her mama for a while before going to sleep :)
Here are a few things I would love to have for her space:
Pom Pom Curtains
Striped Rug
Cloud Pillow
"Love" wooden sign
Happy Place wall art
Vintage Dresser
Bunny Knobs
Farmhouse Light
Right now I'm trying to find the perfect warm white for her walls and scouring Craigslist for a pretty (and hopefully inexpensive!) vintage dresser. Wish me luck! xo, Lauren

It's no secret that I love pastels! Luckily I have a husband who is down with a little pink in his life! Wouldn't this make such a dreamy nursery? Almost makes me want to have another baby! (Almost) xo, Lauren

I've Got My Eye On .01
Now that we've moved, I'm surprisingly finding that I'm drawn to charcoal blacks, indigo blues, and brass. I'm not sure what it is about this house, but it somehow feels right. A few of these picks are a bit out of my league budget-wise, but they're definitely inspiring me at the moment:
1. Serena & Lily Hanging Rattan Chair - I think the girls would just love this and it's the right mix of whimsy and sophistication.
2. Oversized Mirror - Another great buy - this mirror is huge!
3. Paisley Pillows - This one is super budget-friendly - two pretty pillows for $29.99?!
4. Buffalo Check - Would love to upholster a chair or bench in this fabric, but a pillow is certainly much more affordable option.
5. Libations Bar Cart - Okay, so this one is WAY out of my league, but so, so pretty!
6. Faceted Stone Lamp - I've always had a thing for soapstone (and this one is on sale right now!)
7. Medallion Rug - Love that this rug is a perfect combination of classic and contemporary (plus I bet the dark color would hold up well with kids and cats!)
Fun & Funky Teen Room
Another idea board I've had in the works for a while and just never got a chance to finishing. I think this would be such a fun room for a teen girl (okay, who am I kidding - I want this room!)

Kid's Room Design Board: Eclectic Adventurer
I've never been one for a super specific themed kid's room, but every kid loves going on adventures, right? I know Violet does! I whipped up this eclectic adventurer-themed room for Apartment Therapy - you can see the full post with sources right here. xo, Lauren
A Pretty Place to Work
Now that I am working part-time, my desk is in an "office" type setting along with the rest of my team rather than in a huge classroom, and my space is pretty dismal at the moment. I'd really like to freshen things up but I don't want to spend a lot of money and I have to use the standard issue hideous monster of a desk, so I've been throwing around some ideas on a design board.
I thought one way to dress up the desk might be to cover it with some fun patterned gift wrap and place a piece of plexi glass on top. I'm also thinking a large but inexpensive piece artwork, like this "Be your-self" print would make a big impact on a budget. Maybe I could splurge on a few cute (but still reasonable) accessories and eventually add a few smaller pieces of art into the mix. A few other things I'm considering are a peg board, some small DIY projects like a cute mouse pad or some DIY artwork, and possibly painting the desk (not sure if that's allowed or if it would even work on a metal desk.)
And I'm still not sure what to do about a desk chair, because right now I have a wonky hand-me-down behemoth that a colleague gave me (if I didn't take it it was going to the dumpster). Not only is it totally fug, it's also way too big for me and is pretty uncomfortable, so I'm going to keep an eye out for an inexpensive alternative (suggestions welcome!)

Fall in Love
I'm so excited to be working with Project Nursery, RH Baby & Child and a few of my other favorite bloggers to throw a pin party tonight! I hope that you'll join us to see all of my favorite pics to create a Fall-inspired nursery, including all of the the items in the idea board above. I was totally inspired by the warm, cozy textures and deep jewel tones that go hand-in-hand with Autumn. I so can't wait for pumpkins, apple cider, crunchy leaves, and cozy sweaters!

Camp Kid
I don't know what it is, but there's something about a camp theme for a kid's room that feels oh, so right. Maybe it's the warm textures and rustic accents or perhaps the feelings and memories it brings up - warming your toes by the campfire, feeling the wind in your hair as you row across the lake in a canoe, or smelling the sweet smell of dew in the morning, but it's one of my favorites for sure. You can check out my favorite pieces to pull together a modern camp-themed space over on my latest article for Houzz.com.

A Happy Glam Nursery
I love the happy feeling of bright pinks and cheerful yellows, but blues and golds have stolen my heart lately as well. Luckily, they all play quite nicely together! xo, Lauren

A Pair of Pears
I came across this pretty pear painting on Pinterest and fell in love - it's right up my alley with that peachy pink/bluey mint color combination. Throw in a bit of black stripe and a generous amount of gold and stir. You can find all of the sources and more over at my post for Houzz.com.
The Mural is Up!
My sister sent over some photos of the finished map mural - doesn't it look amazing in the space?! Now I can't wait for more. It's so fun to see an idea come to life :) (Here is the original design board in case you missed it!)

A Happy & Bright Big Boy Room + Some Big News!
I'm sooo excited to be able to say that I'm going to be an Auntie again! My sister is pregnant with baby number two (due in December right around Christmas!) and I am over the moon!!! She lives in Australia with my brother-in-law and nephew, Xavier, and even though she's on the other side of the world we're still very close and Skype a few times a week. It can be difficult sometimes because of the extreme time difference, but we make it work.
I remember being worried when I had kids that they might not form the same bond with her as they would with family members who lived close by, but amazingly that didn't seem to be the case. The proof came the first time that they came to visit after Violet was old enough to know what was going on (the first time they visited her she was just a newborn). She is usually very reserved around new people, and even pretty stingy with hugs or affection with close family, but she went absolutely crazy with excitement when they showed up at our house and gave out hugs galore. That makes me even happier now because although we made the twenty-plus hour trip when my sister had her first baby, we won't be able to this time around. It's going to absolutely kill me not to be able to hold my new squishy niece or nephew, but there's really no way around it, so I'm relying completely on video chat until they are able to visit with the new baby.
Another exciting aspect about adding another little bambino to the family is that my sister asked me to help with the design of Xavier's big boy room. They're coming to visit in July (she's so brave - making that long trip with a two-year-old and being pregnant!) and she's hoping to transition him to the new space on their return home. She's crossing her fingers that since he'll be used to sleeping in different spaces at that point from traveling that it will make the transition easier. I have my fingers crossed for her because we had a devil of a time switching Violet to a big girl bed in a new room!
Here's the initial design plan that I came up with for her:
She's really into clean, modern design and bright pops of color. She really wanted a large map in the room because of her ties to both the U.S. and Australia and all of the traveling that they do, so I found this gorgeous mural which was the starting point for the space. It was difficult for me to create this design, as I had to find Australian sources and didn't have my usual go-to sites to visit. Plus everything seems to be ridiculously more expensive there! So if you're in the U.S., a lot of these sources probably won't be that useful for you, although if there's a product that I know you can find in the U.S. I'll try to list that source as well:
Map mural (USA)
Rainbow felt ball garland (USA)
Red industrial pendant lamp (USA)
Nanoblock Statue of Liberty toy (USA)
Elephant chair (USA)
Cubebot toy natural (USA)
Kid-O warm stacking cups toy (USA)
Globe (my sister already owns this)
Bookshelf (my sister already owns this)
Yellow wire basket (USA - similar)
Table lamp
Tin robot toy
Nightstand/shelf
Donna Wilson fox pillow (USA)
Green robot toy
Red Eames style hang-it-all (USA)
Yellow striped bedding (USA)
Toddler bed (USA)
Red alarm clock (USA)
Wooden camera (USA)
I'm still going to make some tweaks to it to suit her budget and things, but it was a pretty good jumping-off point! Excited to see one of my design boards come to life!!! xo, Lauren
P.S. Isn't the above photo of my nephew such a great idea?! My sister snapped a shot of my brother-in-law throwing him up in the air and then edited him out to make it look like Xavier is flying! Sooo cute.
Plus, Violet in Australia and more nursery design inspiration
Neon Pop Nursery
I love the idea of a bright white nursery with lots of pops of fun color and metallic accents. It seems like it would be such a happy, energizing space, don't you think?

Feeling Sweet
There are a lot of nursery designs out there, but the tweens and teens often get the short end of the stick. I’ve found that for this age group, a mix of adult and kids’ decor is a must to bridge the gap between the two worlds. And while bright, fun colors are still a go, mixing in metallics and a few touches of a more sophisticated color like black can make all the difference in keeping the space from feeling too childish. I was recently inspired by my friend’s tween daughter who has a major sweet tooth, and here are some fun finds for a girl’s room that won’t make the space feel too saccharine. You can check out the sources over on my post for Houzz.com!
Spring Fling

Fun Finds to Spark the Imagination
I have always believed that the perfect kids’ room in some way sparks the imagination. Bright, playful colors and patterns, an abundance of whimsy and fun, and thoughtfully chosen toys and decor help to whisk your little one away into a daydream world of lions and tigers, sailboats and hot air balloons, magical cities and cowboys and fairies. You can check out a few of my favorite finds to create just such a space over on my latest idea book for Houzz.com. xo, Lauren
Camp Out in the Nursery
Truth be told, you’ll be spending many nights camping out in your little one’s nursery. So why not take the decor all the way with a fun camp-inspired look? It’s one of my favorite nursery themes that can work for boys and girls alike. To keep things from going over-the-top, I prefer pieces that have that rustic and natural feel, but with a modern edge. Think warm wood tones with clean lines and traditional patterns in fresh color palettes. Here are 20 of my favorite pieces that fit the bill. You can find all of the sources over at my post on Houzz.com.
