Violet's Turns Two: Party Theme

I've been a bit wishy washy when it comes to a 'theme' for Violet's second birthday party. I think themes can be really overdone and get cheesy pretty fast, but they are really helpful when it comes to focusing your planning. Last year I went with a color theme of pinks and reds and I was really happy with how it turned out. This year I think I've finally come up with something that is loose enough that I can really have fun with it. So unless I change my mind we're going with a...Spring Fling!

I loooooove and have loved this printable by Masako Kubo for tocotoco for like ever and am definitely using it somehow for the party! Instant color scheme.

Mini Meals: Bento Boxes

Since we were away all weekend I didn't really get a chance to photograph any of Violet's meals, so I thought I'd share a few of my favorite mini meal products with all of you. When we're at home we mostly use one of these items, but I usually send Violet's meals to her babysitter in little Bento-style containers. As she is starting to eat more, I've been looking into other options and I really love the practicality of Bento-style lunchboxes. Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Spencer Bento Box ($16.50)
2. Laptop Lunches Bento Box ($27.99)
3. Goodbyn Original ($25.95)
4. PlanetBox ($49.95)

I think the Spencer box is prettiest and a great price, but I love the fact that the laptop lunches bento comes with separate little containers with lids. You could fill the boxes with leftovers as the occur and just insert them into the main box as needed. The Goodbyn is another great option because it not only can handle a water bottle, but a whole banana as well! And considering that Violet is a bit obsessed with bananas, that's almost a must in my book. The Planetbox is a little pricey, but I do love that it is made of stainless steel rather than plastic. Plastic always freaks me out a bit in general. Maybe I could just create some sort of perfect mutant hybrid that meets all of our needs...

Mixing in Modern Pieces

At the moment there are mostly traditional wood pieces in Violet's room. We have the antique dresser that I found on Craigslist and a small roll-top desk that was hand-crafted by my father-in-law. I really love both pieces, but I tend to prefer a mix of both modern and traditional pieces. Here are a few that I'm considering to provide balance in Violet's big girl room:

3. Scoop-Back Chair . West Elm
4. Hive Storage . CB2

Unfortunately although we could use the additional lighting, the ceiling is on the lower side so I don't know if the pendant will work out, but I really love it! We're going to buy the bed, mattress, and chair with the help of our tax return. Jury's still out on if the Hubster is going to build the hive storage or if it would be easier just to buy it. Either way I'll keep you posted!
