Supermom: Rubyellen Bratcher of Cakies

1.16.2013
This week's Supermom is Rubyellen Bratcher of Cakies. Rubyellen has four gorgeous little girls and an absolutely beautiful home. She is always coming up with a new lovely DIY project or pretty crafts, whipping up delicious looking meals, and planning awesome birthday bashes, movie nights, and fun activities for her girls. Rubyellen is truly a lady who does it all and that's why I'm happy to include her in my list of Supermoms! Read on to find out more about Rubyellen...

I had found Soulemama and was smitten. I never knew that there was this whole community out there devoted to the love of making things and I wanted in. I started selling some of my handmade goods at a local boutique and a friend of mine suggested I started blogging about all the things I was making and so it began...

My favorite part of being a mother is being able to share joy with my children and celebrating of little and big things together. Kids have so much joy and all you want to do is make them happy! Of course, the little kisses and hugs are also a favorite.

The toughest thing about being a mother is that all your bad qualities get magnified and you have to fight that. You really have to take more notice and control over the areas you fall short at because you have little ones who are watching and imitating you. I am constantly fighting myself to be more loving, more patient, less quick to anger, and less of being a control freak. I want to be a good model of love for these girls of mine.

1. The Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair. By far the best chair because it grows with them and allows them to sit at the dinner table with you. I think this is the one everyone should have.

2. Sophie. The best baby toy ever!

3. IKEA bibs. These are the best to protect babies from the messiness they create!

1. Rody. Every kid should have one. It promotes creativity, fun, and physical activity!

2. Building Block Set. My girls play with this all the time!

3. Record Player. We collect the read-along books and it's great for following along. Plus, record players are perfect for family dance parties!

1. Sling. I wore one all the time (I have this and this) and I think baby wearing is fabulous.

2. Dry Shampoo. Let's face it, getting time for yourself is rare, and sometimes it's easier just to stay in pajamas all day. Most days, I try to get myself (somewhat) together and dry shampoo is perfect for helping me feel fresh and fabulous even if I don't have a lot of time to spend on myself.

3. A good book. When all is quiet and the kids are asleep, I like to escape to read a good book. It's relaxing for me and I think it's important to still have something that let's you escape when all is done for the day. (Image)

I so don't do it all. I do what I can, but there are certain things that get thrown to the wayside while I focus on what's priority to me. I am horrifically very unorganized. It's the first thing to go when life gets busy, which is most of the time, so my closets are usually disheveled, and I am a just stuff it in a drawer kind of person. Who needs folding anyways?! As wonderful as most blogs seem, there is no one who does it all and I am sure most people would agree.

It's easy to compare and idolize other moms who seem to have it more put together. Honestly though, they are just like you. They are good at some things (and those things probably get showcased on their blogs), but I am sure there are tons of things they aren't so good at. Everyone goes bathroom the same way and passes gas (though mine smells like roses) the same way, so we are all much more alike than you realize. No one mother is particularly better than another. We are the mothers specially and specifically designed for our children and family and no one can ever do a better job than you do for them!

Rachel Denbow has to be one of the best. She seriously has skills like no other!

Thank you so much to Rubyellen for your thoughts and advice! I love to hear that I'm not the only horrifically unorganized mom out there :) To see more of Rubyellen and her beautiful family, visit her blog Cakies.

  2. I love Rubyellen's blog! I always find so much encouragement when I read her posts because she always keeps it real. I really appreciate her transparency as a wife and mother. And she always has so many cute projects ideas, as well as, the best vintage home style.

I bought a Mamma's Milk sling last year after reading her reviews on it on her blog - and it's hands-down one of my favorite baby investments I've ever made! I only wish I'd had one with my three older kids. It's so perfect for wearing your newborn so you can remain hands-free. I highly recommend them.
