Nursery Organization

5.13.2010
A few of you have asked where we store all of the baby 'stuff' in our little nursery. Here's the skinny on our nursery organization:

Storage Space No. 1 - Under the Crib

One thing I love is our long crib skirt. It allowed us to put a HUGE storage bin under the crib and no one is the wiser. We use it to stash our extra diapers, diaper genie refills, wipes, and extra crib sheets:

Storage Space No. 2 - In the Dresser

The top drawer of our little dresser stores diapers, wipes, socks, mittens, onesies, and various other baby pastes, powders, and creams. The other three drawers house Violet's extensive wardrobe.

Storage Space No. 3 - On the Shelves

We use this shelving unit to store Violet's books, stuffed animals, blankets, and toys. The baskets keep everything from looking too cluttered:

Storage Space No. 4 - In the Window Seat

Not only is the window seat a great spot to read or survey the neighborhood, it doubles as storage space. Just take off the cushion, and voila! storage to spare. I'm sure we'll fill up these cubbies soon enough! (We still need to paint the top)

We also have a closet in the hallway just outside the nursery where we can keep anything that must hang (along with a storage bin or two for overflow.) With lots of nieces and nephews and we know how baby stuff can start to take over. We're doing our best with what little space we have!

Do you have any other baby/kid storage tips or tricks?
I'd love to hear them!

  1. Great storage ideas Lauren. And I noticed in one of the pics that you have the little Ikea activity gym. Violet will love that. My son was entertained for very long stretches of time with that thing!

  2. I. Love. Your. Nursery. I don't have any kids yet but when I do, I want a nursery like this one! Heck, I would sleep here! It belongs in a magazine, seriously.

  4. Oh my goodness, your daughter's nursery is gorgeous!! Wow, fantastic job!

Also, well done on the hidden storage. It's nice to find out how people can keep rooms so neat and organized, yet still full of ready-to-use baby items.

Oh, and Violet is one of the names we're considering when it comes time to expand our family! Such a pretty beautiful name! :)

    1. The pillow on the rocker is from Pottery Barn a long time ago. The fabric (curtains) are from Urban Outfitters.

  13. Where did you get hinges for the window box? My husband made one for our daughter, but we can't find hinges for the lid strong enough.
