Our Perfect Halloween Day

11.02.2010
We stepped outside and felt the crispness of a cool fall day. After making sure our baby was bundled in her stroller with cozy blankets and a warm bag of corn at her feet, we set off. Leaves crunching underfoot, we strolled down the street amongst witches, goblins, fairies, and superheros.

We stopped along the way to admire a spooky graveyard and snap a few photos. The sun warming our backs, we walked on. The smell of a cozy fire and fresh laundry wafted through the air as we arrived at the fall festivities.

Our little neighborhood community was gathering together for a parade, hot apple cider, and general Halloween hijinks. As we mingled among friends and neighbors, Violet was in her glory. Being around all of the people, and especially the kids, absolutely captivated her - creepy costumes and all.

We ate pumpkin bread and sipped hot apple cider as she bobbed for apples and made new friends. Everyone admired her bright blue eyes and decided that she was the prettiest and sweetest little witch they'd ever seen. We had to agree.

After meeting new people, talking to old friends, playing some games, and taking some photos, she seemed tuckered out but content. We snuggled her back into her stroller and began the walk home, stopping along the way to wave to a local witch and chat with a few neighbors.

Home at last we smiled at each other as we admired our little family and talked about our perfect day. It's amazing how a baby can make a holiday magical again. I look ahead and feel excitement for the months and years to come - trick or treating with our little girl, filling our tummies at Thanksgiving, unwrapping presents at Christmas.

Having a baby really does change your life - maybe sometimes in ways that are challenging, but mostly in ways that make your heart sing. Today you made my heart sing, baby. Thank you for a perfect day. Happy Halloween to my little witchy poo from your Mommy - I love you my sweet little girl!

  1. She is so beautiful. I love the little monkey doll in the first picture. Yes, they do have a way of making the simple things more special. I have to say that your little town is a place I would like to live :)
