Lauren's Simple and Elegant Nursery

12.07.2010
Recently, Lauren wrote to me about an idea board for a boy's nursery:

Hi Lauren,

I'd love an idea board for a little boy's nursery. Our furniture will be purchased from Pottery Barn. We have a choice between espresso wood or white (which is really like an off white color).  My husband wants the espresso color but no final decision has been made.

I think my problem is that I didn't want a "theme" per say so I am having trouble even getting started. Our style is simple, modern, elegant.  We like the silvers, grays, blues but we are open to any ideas/inspiration you have to offer - I love your taste!

Hope this helps! Can't wait to see your suggestions!

Lauren

Here's what I cooked up for Lauren's simple and elegant nursery:

Thanks for giving me a chance to work on a nursery, Lauren - they're my favorite!

  1. Hey Lauren,

I noticed on your Twitter that you were looking for dairy/soy free cookie recipes. Here's the one I survived on last Christmas when I wasn't eating dairy:

    Coconut Macaroons
    1 (7oz) roll almond paste
    1 cup sugar
    2 egg whites
1 (7 oz) package flaked coconut (about 1 1/2 cups)

Using an electric mixer, blend the almond paste, sugar and one egg white until smooth. Slowly add remaining egg white, beating well. Mix in the coconut. Drop by teaspoon on to a parchment paper covered baking sheet. (These spread so leave some room). Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Makes about 33 cookies.

These are one of my favorite cookies anyway, so I was thrilled when I realized I could still eat them last year! Enjoy!

  3. Hi Lauren (and Lauren! - LOL)

I love this understated grey and blue color scheme. It reminded me of another nursery that was submitted to my site a year or two ago. I thought it might give you a few more ideas.

I called it the modern airplane nursery idea but it really isn't themey.

It uses the same silver wall letters and has espresso furniture.

By the way, where are those dragonflies from?
