Sorry I'm going to be MIA here for a few days or possibly more. Life seems like a crazy ride lately that just won't slow down. We ended up in the E.R. this week after poor little V had a reaction to baby acetaminophen (we thought she was having some teething pain and gave it to her before bed - stupid Mommy!) Normally we can get things under control on our own after a couple of hours with the help of some Pedialyte, but this time she couldn't keep anything down and got really dehydrated.
After many unsuccessful attempts on her feet, hands, and arms, our sweet little girl ended up with an IV in her head. With some much needed rest and TLC she is feeling much better and even made it to a cookie exchange yesterday, which, although fun was a bit torturous as I couldn't eat anything but carrots and celery.
Luckily we recently had a successful visit to the GI specialist who (unlike our pediatrician) actually took the time to listen to us and didn't make ridiculous suggestions like, 'keep feeding her solids every day' or 'maybe it's just some acid reflux.' She will be having an upper GI and endoscopy and seeing an allergist in the near future as well so at least the ball is rolling.
Hopefully we won't do anything stupid (like giving her corn syrup and dye-laden medicine) again and she'll be able to enjoy the rest of the holiday season as much as possible.
Ah the holidays...only eight days left and the presents are bought but not wrapped, the house is decorated but a complete disaster due to some renovations (more on that soon I hope), and I've given up on Christmas cards this year. Hope you are all feeling more prepared than me. Oh and if you've emailed me and I haven't gotten back to you I apologize - hopefully next week will be a little less crazy. Happy Friday!
Oh, my. So sorry to hear about the ER trip. Glad you found a good doc. Wishing you some much-deserved serenity this week and into the new year! -mary
