So today is supposed to be the 'reveal' day for our dollhouses, but it just didn't happen. This is just a tough time of year with the holidays and things are crazy. Last night after V went to bed I divided my time between making six dozen cookies for a cookie exchange we're going to today and dollhousing. Luckily I'm really making the dollhouse for Violet to play with someday and not just for the challenge, but it was a fun way to motivate myself to get started! So without further ado, here's what I have going on so far:
I decided to have a little fun with the roof and used chalkboard paint. For now I drew shingles on, but eventually Violet could get creative and draw whatever strikes her fancy. I obviously still needs to add windows and doors as well.
The bedroom needs some lamps or sconces and something on the far wall, but overall I'm liking the vibe I've got going on here.
In this space a lot still needs to happen. The windows need to be cut out of the wallpaper and installed and some painting needs to be done to some of the furniture in this room (and a door would be good too!) I think the dining chairs are going to be painting - not sure about the table and benches. I think I'm also going to paint at least the top of the side table and maybe the bench in the entryway? Any thoughts on this part? It's still got a long way to go - but hey, they have their Christmas tree up at least!
This wingback chair will probably go in the living area as well - I'm still working on finishing up the reupholstery.
I debated for a while if this room should be a bathroom or not, but I decided that the dolls are just going to have to learn to hold it. It is so much more fun to make a studio/workspace! Plus it's open to the stairs and that's bound to be a little awkward for a bathroom if you know what I mean.
I'm planning to paint the desk and add art to the walls. Maybe even buy an iMac? :) I'm still debating on how to paint the stairs too. There's also a kitchen and children's space in the house, but they are no where near completion so more on that to come.
Overall creating a dollhouse has been a much bigger challenge than I anticipated but so much fun! Congrats to all who made the deadline and completed their spaces - I can't wait to check them all out!
Looks great! It is more work than I anticipated...but so much fun!
ReplyDeleteFun! I particularly like the rug in the bedroom. LOVELY!
ReplyDeleteLauren, this looks great! I saw these pictures on instagram last night and thought they were real rooms! No clue that they were dollhouse rooms. :) I love everything and I agree with the choice to nix the bathroom. I did the same with mine.
ReplyDeleteYour house is looking AMAZING! I would have loved to join the challenge too but knew there was no way I was up to it so close to #3's birth time. Violet is going to LOVE this :)

ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes you are sooo busy with other much more important things I'm sure :) I hope Violet appreciates it someday!
ReplyDeleteAw thank you so much Vanessa :) Glad you agree with me on the bathroom thing. It would have been fun to have one but I'm okay without.
ReplyDeleteThank you - the rug is fabric from Leah Duncan. Love her work.
ReplyDeleteThanks - yours looks amazing as well!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! So stylish-I would live there! Where is the pattern on the wall in the last photo from?
ReplyDeleteHow ever it turns out -- Violet is one lucky little girl :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you shared what you had finished so far because it was so much fun to see the wonderful design going on. I do love that you are going to have your dolls just hold it because a little office does sound much more fun to create! Your colors and patterns are pretty and I like the roof.
ReplyDeleteOurs...made with pants pocket linings, an old ironing board pad...:
