Pregnancy Update

4.07.2010
So we're officially in the ninth month! It somehow feels like we've had all of this time, and now here at the end I feel so unprepared. And you know what else? I so thought with an early May baby I would miss out on the warm weather discomfort. I was wrong. It is not even mid-April and temps are already close to the 90's.

Even if it doesn't feel like spring at the H-Haus it does look like it. Our weeping cherry is in full bloom and we decided to take advantage of it for our latest belly shot - 36 weeks and 2 days!

I love spring - it's so pretty with all of its colors and flowers and freshness.

I'll definitely say I have some sort of combination of spring and baby fever. The nesting instinct is in full swing. I re-learned to use a sewing machine today to hem the curtains for Violet's nursery. I used one in college and before that in middle school home ec, but it's definitely been a while. We still need a door on the nursery, a lid on the window seat, and we're waiting on our crib bumper and window seat cushion from Jayna at Rocky Top Designs on etsy.

We've had both of our family showers plus a work shower (stay tuned for pics from our second shower tomorrow). We've also bought all of the 'necessary' things that were left on our registry. Our experience with Babies R Us has actually been incredibly positive. They allowed us to use all of our 20% off coupons (even though it says one per customer), PLUS they took an extra 15% off on top of that for signing up for a BRU credit card. Here's the real kicker though - we only had to put a penny on the credit card and were allowed to pay for the rest with gift cards and we STILL got 15% off the order total. Crazy right?

And the store employee who had to figure out all of this coupon/discount craziness kept apologizing to us for not doing all of this fast enough. It was like being in the twilight zone - we saved a bundle and were treated wonderfully! I've heard a lot of bad things about BRU, but we've had nothing but a positive experience so far.

I've started gathering information on pediatricians (probably a little late, but oh well!) - stay tuned for a post on that next week. I've also started a list for our hospital bag. It's getting a little long...I tend to be an over-packer:
  • Pillow
  • Boppy
  • Makeup
  • Soap
  • iPod + Charger
  • Comfy Pants
  • Socks
  • Flip Flops
  • Breast Pads
  • Pads
  • Snacks
  • Cell Phone + Charger
  • Camera + Charger
  • Computer+Charger
  • Toothbrush + Paste
  • Deodorant
  • Baby Take Home Outfit
  • Baby's Book for Hand/Footprints
  • Vaseline
  • Nightguard
  • Hair Brush
  • Nursing Tanks
  • Hair Ties
  • Birth Plan
  • Bag of Change for Vending Machines
  • Lansinoh
  • Breast Pump
  • Snack Basket for Nurses/Visitors

And I've got a small birth 'plan' going on:
  • No episiotomy - prefer to tear naturally
  • Delayed cutting of the cord (wait until it stops pulsing)
  • Breastfeed as soon as possible after birth
  • No pacifiers, bottles, or formula
I know that you can never plan for a birth - they're all different and unpredictable in their own crazy way, but it can't hurt for you and your doctor to know your preferences.

So that's where we're at with three and a half weeks to go! I could keep writing - so many thoughts have been swirling through my brain, but this post is already windy enough. Stay tuned next week for another nursery sneak peek!
