First I gathered my materials (cat and pregnant belly not necessary):
You will need the clipboard, scissors (good ones), fabric or paper, spray adhesive, and magnets. (Which Charlie decided to sit on top of). You could buy magnet strips or use old junk mail magnets that are taking up space on your fridge like I did. Place newspaper down, as this will get a little messy.
Next, cut the fabric about half an inch wider than your clipboard:
If you want to cover the back of the clipboard as well, trace the clipboard onto the fabric and cut a piece to fit:
Apply spray adhesive to the front of the clipboard and smooth out the fabric. Then spray the back of the clipboard and smooth down the edges. I used some tape to help hold the corners in place as I did this. Finally, apply the back panel. Spray adhesive is pretty toxic and stinky, so you may want to wear a mask.
If you have magnet strips, they will probably already have sticky stuff on one side. If you are upcycling ugly magnets like me, just use the spray adhesive one more time:
And voila! A pretty clipboard:
Finally, either create your own meal planning chart or print one out from here. I chose the latter. Fill out your meals for the week according to your grocer's weekly circular to take advantage of the sales!
Here are a few more pretty clipboard images for you to peruse:

And I'll leave you with a few helpful sources on planning meals:
I love this idea. My problem is that I'd love to have a meal plan, but my boyfriend (who also likes to cook) likes to be spontaneous and just head to the supermarket and buy whatever is needed. I'm still working out a way to get around this...
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright side - your boyfriend loves to cook, and if he's willing to go to the supermarket and buy the food too, I wouldn't say one word ;) (AND it's fresh)
ReplyDeleteThe hubster likes to cook, but we both hate to go to the supermarket and deciding what to make, so this is working for us so far!
Those are so fun! I actually just found two clipboards while cleaning out my garage and almost donated them... this could be the perfect project. Thanks for sharing :).
ReplyDeleteYour cat is adorable! I've been enjoying your blog! So much so, that I added it to my blogroll.

Thanks so much Benny! Going to check out your blog now :)
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I have the same food dilemma. "What are we having tonight?!"
ReplyDeleteLuckily I'm a food MacGyver and can typically whip something out of the scraps in our fridge and cupboard, or we go to the old stand by - Pizza.
Each weekend we try to plan at least one or two good home cooked meals to prepare during that week. This helps with the daily supermarket trips & the "what are we having tonight?" question. Plus, we make sure to make plenty, so that we can enjoy the leftovers the other days of the week!
Currently our favorite cooks are...
Ina Garten - http://www.foodnetwork.com/barefoot-contessa/index.html
and
Giada De Laurentiis - http://www.foodnetwork.com/chefs/giada-de-laurentiis/index.html
If you are unfamiliar, both have simple and delicious recipes that we find perfect for these weekly meals.
Ding Ding (Dinner Bell)!
PS: Lauren, we love reading the blog!
Very cute! I'm going to link to this from my blog. :)
