A Vintage Girl's Nursery

3.16.2010
Recently, Jessica wrote to me for inspiration for her daughter's nursery:

Hi Lauren,

We're having a girl in June :) and about ready to start the nursery.  I have a general idea of the color scheme and feel that I want, but have the fear that as I piece it together it won't be cohesive.  The color scheme I'm digging right now is a mix of pinks (pale to rosy), bright yellow and small accents of turqoise using white and greys as a back drop.  This is probably a horrible way of describing my style, but I really like updated vintage/modern combinations, and of course since we're having a girl, I want a bit of sweetness mixed in.

The room is definitely small - we live in a condo in the city (overall style of the condo is updated vintage. all new interior, exposed brick, charming molding, dark wood floors, etc.)   The room dimensions are only 9x10 - a closet on the shortened wall where the door is.  It has one very, very small window, so extra light will be a must.  We have dark hardwood floors but poor sound proofing, so a high quality area rug is also a must. You're so wonderful for offering free services :)  I love your blog!!  we are also trying to keep our nursery within a reasonable budget (1500ish).

Thanks!

Jessica

A sweet, vintage girl's nursery? Pinks, yellows, and turquoise? Jessica you're singing my tune! Here's what I came up with:

Thanks, Jessica for the great inspiration photos you had already gathered - the mirror and poms were a great jumping off point! The antique bronze crib that is shown here is a bit pricey, but it could easily be recreated with an inexpensive Jenny Lind crib in white and some paint. A pink, white, yellow, or wood toned crib would all work equally well. The table lamp could also be DIY'ed - just find any lamp with a wooden base and add paint! Good luck with your nursery and I would love to see pictures when you are all finished!
