Our First Auction Find

5.05.2011
We went to our first auction the other day - actually right in our own neighborhood! It was amazing to see all of the things a person can collect in their lifetime. It was also really interesting to see what price things went for. A snoopy lamp, for example, went for $41, while an entire bedroom set (super retro) went for $15. Craziness, right? Here's what we purchased:

We're going to use it as a potting station in the garage, which we've been desperately in need of! I love the worn red paint/stain, the little keyholes, and how rustic the whole piece is. Bidding started at fifty cents and we ended up paying $22 (our limit was thirty). I'm pretty happy with that price, and REALLY happy with my new potting station! Have any of you ever bought anything at auction before? What was your experience like? I really enjoyed it and I'm thinking of going to more.

We appreciate your votes!

  1. What a fabulous dresser! The color is so rich and I think it will be perfect for that potting station, which reminds me... I could use one of those things myself!

  2. oh wow I just love that red dresser! And such a great deal! Where did you find out about actions in your area? I'd love to find some near us but have no clue where to start... also I'd probably think it would be to overwhelming - was it busy and crazy like I imagine from TV?

  4. Looks like a great piece! I have not been to an auction since I was little (my grandfather was an auctioneer) but you can really get some great deals. Will be interested to see your planting station with that piece incorporated.
