Gemütlichkeit!

8.10.2011
We took Violet to her first German festival the other week and she is decidedly a little mädchen. From the moment we arrived she began swayed to the polka music. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the dancers and she even learned some fancy footwork from a pretty member of the Alpine group. With both of our families having strong German roots (my father-in-law immigrated to the U.S. from Germany when he was ten and my mother-in-law and my own family lineage have a lot of those lovely German-sounding last names) it was really special to share the culture, food, and history with Violet. Here are a few photos from our day:

Although we didn't buy her a dirndl ($120 wowza!) we did buy her a sweet little German doll. (Open to suggestions on names - he's a boy) When she saw him she was instantly smitten and hugged him tightly, so we knew it was a must-purchase. The only upsetting part of the day was that our camera battery died and we didn't have the backup so we totally missed a lot of great shots. All in all though it was a perfect first festival for our little mädchen. I'm sure there will be many more in her future!

(And if anyone knows how to take a photo of a bratwurst that isn't incredibly disturbing, please do share!)

  3. So fun! As you know, we have a special place in our hearts for Germany, too. And I wouldn't be surprised if our German friends send an itty bitty dirndl or a pair of lederhosen for our Peanut this fall!
