H-Haus Backyard and Patio

8.12.2011
After posting about my little gardener, I got a lot of requests to see more of our backyard space, so here you are!

I really love our patio - it's nothing super special, but it offers great privacy and it's pretty large for our little house. We recently purchased the IKEA Nordano table and love that it is so roomy when the two leaves are up. We still need to find chairs - so far the Hubster and I haven't agreed on any. The swing has been there almost since we moved in - it was one of our first outdoor purchases for the house and it's still holding up great. As you can see Kevin (and Violet) do a great job caring for the plant life:

Our backyard is also nothing super thrilling, but we love the open grassy space for Violet and the privacy that the arbivitis offers. The backyard is almost completely fenced in with the exception of the areas leading to the front yard.

We planted the weeping cherry tree a few years ago and it is doing really well - I think next summer it may even be large enough to put a small table and chairs beneath its branches for a fun little destination in the yard. For now it's where our Adirondack chairs and fire pit live:

Often at night after Violet is in bed we sit out and roast s'mores either on the patio or in the yard. The smell of a fire brings back great memories for me of camping with my family and a s'more is just such a sweet way to end a great evening - don't you think?

We're desperately trying to soak up all of the warm sun, crackling campfires and fresh air that we have left here in the dog days of summer. In only a week or so I'll be back to work and missing this wonderful time that we've spent together as a little family of three, but I'm doing my best to focus on the positive - the cool crisp autumn air, colorful crunchy leaves, and warm fires in our fireplace. I guess it's not all bad.

Here's to Mother Nature and the beauty of the changing seasons! Which is your favorite?

  2. We just got ours this year and now I don't know what we ever did without it! It was really inexpensive too and came with a nice cover. We've definitely gotten our money's worth.

  3. What a sweet space! Nick is definitely the green thumb in our relationship, too, and I know he can't wait to have a backyard to play in.

  4. we just bought that exact fire pit for our family lake vacation this summer. now i can't wait to have my own backyard to use it in...it's the perfect size and much more modern looking than some of the overly traditional styles out there!
