Emily Wiley is a friend of mine from way back in our high school days. She currently works in PR and writes about her kitchen adventures over on The Culinary Couple. She's also pregnant and due in September - I can't wait to hear about her adventures as a new mother! Today Emily is sharing the comfort foods and products that are helping her through those long nine months:
I’ve known Lauren since we scooped ice cream side-by-side at the local parlor. As you all know, Lauren is kind and creative and has the most adorable little girl. And I’m thrilled that she asked me to guest post while she’s taking some time off. Hope you’re enjoying your week, Lauren!

Now allow me to introduce myself. I’m Emily: wife and mother-to-be; lover of food and photography; and one-half of The Culinary Couple. I have an affinity for red KitchenAid appliances, dark chocolate, farmers markets, and microbrews. And my husband and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our little Peanut this September!
Pregnancy has been amazing thus far. There is just nothing comparable to the miracle of growing a tiny human being inside of you. Yes, there are backaches and there is heartburn. There are mood swings and food cravings and baby kicks in the ribs. And it’s becoming increasingly more difficult to climb stairs and paint my toenails and sleep comfortably through the night. But I know it will all be worth it when I finally get to hold our sweet babe.
Pregnancy has given me a greater appreciation for my husband and for the simple things in life. Because sometimes it’s those simple things that help to get me through the day. Three such things are:
Bella B Tummy Honey Butter: I’m not sure if I can credit good genes or this belly butter, but I'm still stretch mark-free at 31 weeks pregnant. Plus it keeps my stomach from itching throughout the day.
Snoogle: I simply cannot sleep without this pillow. It hugs the natural curves of my body and forces me to remain on my (preferably left) side all night. And its soft jersey cover is comfortable enough to replace my standard pillow. So far my husband is okay with the new guest in our bed. He even “snoogles” after I get up to shower in the morning.
Crocs Sling-Back Flats: Wedges and stilettos may be stylish, but I just can’t wear them. Not before and definitely not now. And even my flats don’t feel as supportive as they once did. Fortunately, I discovered these shoes. They basically haven’t left my feet since I bought them.
A few more things I can’t live without? Cereal, macaroni and cheese, my Grandma’s strawberry preserves, and ice cream. Speaking of ice cream, I have a recipe to share with you. It comes from David Lebovitz (I highly recommend his book: The Perfect Scoop), and it’s downright decadent.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream
*You will need an ice cream maker for this recipe. I recommend either the KitchenAid attachment or the Cuisinart.
Makes 1 quart.

Happy summer from our kitchen to yours!
Okay, so I'm not pregnant but that chocolate peanut butter ice cream looks divine! So much so that I may have to run out and buy myself an ice cream maker. (Okay, who am I kidding...I'd better just stick with good ol' Ben & Jerry's.) Thanks so much to Emily for the delicious post and I wish you a comfortable pregnancy, easy delivery, and happy healthy baby!
