Jill's Master Bedroom

4.05.2011
Recently, Jill wrote to me about her master bedroom:

Hi Lauren!

Love your style and blog! I need help with my bedroom. I'll email you pics of what I have and colors/styles I like. We're keeping our headboard, gold sunburst mirror, and lamps. I have some great vintage bedside tables and a dresser coming. They are in a blond wood finish, and I don't mind painting them, but they're lovely as is. I have all the major pieces, now I just need help with bedding, curtains, art and accessories. I would define my style as modern eclectic. Color-wise, I am loving saffron, gray, peacock blue and maybe even a pop of magenta or dark purple. Thank you SO much and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Jill

Using Jill's mirror, lamp, and blonde wood furniture as a jumping off point, I came up with a modern eclectic space with pops of purple:

Now, keep in mind that I don't always get idea boards right on the first try. After sending this off to Jill, she wrote back to me:

Hi Lauren!

Thank you so much for my idea board! It really is stunning. I love all your choices! I'm wondering if you can keep most of the same elements, but incorporate a few changes? My husband is not loving the dark purple, which is cra-zay considering he's a Minnesota Vikings fan! LOL.

  • Can we keep all the neutral elements, but remove the dark purple and add in robins egg blue as our accent color?
  • The blond dresser and nightstands I thought I was inheriting seem to be a no-go, so I'm going to paint the ones we already own. A paint color suggestion would be most appreciated. Maybe a taupey gray or mushroom color with antique brass pulls?
  • I'm not 100% sure I want to keep the gold mirror in the room. Could you send me another option?
Thank you SO much for your help! Also, I'm happy to pay you for another idea board if this change is too involved. Time is money! ; )
Jill

Of course, Jill's changes were very reasonable and I was happy to do them free of charge. Here is the second idea board I designed with Jill's requests incorporated:

And Jill's response this time is just what I love to hear:

Hi Lauren!

  5. You always find the best items. Among other things, I'm absolutely in love with the ottoman. Obsessed! These are great - even though your mood boards aren't customized for me (yet) I still enjoy reading them. Keep them coming! You are talented!
