What I Wore (To Work) April

4.21.2011
Per reader requests, I've been trying to do a few more 'style' posts lately, but I've been struggling to find the time to take photos of myself. I have been loving Melissa's ladies' room fashion show posts the past few weeks, so I decided to keep it simple and do a little 'fashion' show of my own in the mornings. So anyway please ignore my awkward poses (it's not easy to take pictures of yourself!)

My last WIWTW was a bit lacking in the color department, so I tried this time around, really I did. Apparently I just don't own a lot of colorful (work appropriate) pieces. Any suggestions in that department would be greatly appreciated!

Day 1: We had some warm, sunny weather for once, woohoo! So I busted out a light stripey number and wore it sans tights for the first time. I also brought along a fun wristlet, because I was taking my students outside and needed a place to stash my cell (I have to keep it with me at all times because of Violet's allergies) and some cough drops and tissues (still getting over bronchitis here).

Sweater & Dress - LOFT
Shoes - Franco Sarto
Belt - The Limited
Wristlet - Compliments of Michael Lynn Wherley Enjoy!
Silver Crochet Earrings - Etsy (terrible but I totally forget the seller!)

Day 2: Bad hair day, so some cropping was in order on this one. So sad to see the sun give way to gloomy rain, but April showers bring May flowers, right?

Corduroy Blazer - Old Navy
Coral Blouse - Thrifted
Black Skinny Slacks - Gap
Shoes - Payless
Flower - Gift

Day 3: I think this outfit would look great with some green or coral slacks like these from Zara, but alas, I haven't been able to locate any in my area or online. A little help?

No?

Striped Top - Gap
Khaki Slacks -JCrew
Pearl & Gold Flower Earrings - Gift
Shoes - Bandolino

Day 4: Liking this outfit, but in hindsight I'm thinking it would look more complete with a long wooden beaded necklace that I own:

Top: Target
Sweater: Loft
Skirt: Gap
Tights: Wet Seal
Shoes: Clarks

Day 5: Not super colorful, but I was liking the stripes/vest/belt thing. Maybe with a colorful belt or flats/heels to spice it up a bit?

Striped Collared Shirt - New York & Co.
Gray Sweater Vest - F21
Black Faux Croc Belt - Thrifted
Black Skinny Slacks - Gap
Shoes - Bandolino

Day 6: Cold and gloomy again, so I had to break back out a sweater + collared shirt combo. I'm thinking some sort of colorful pink shoes a la Kate Spade would be nice with this outfit maybe?

Not in my price range, but pretty, right?

Collared shirt - NY&Co
Sweater - Limited
Pants - Thrifted
Shoes - Clarks
Bracelet - Gift from my sister

Day 7: Felt like wearing this fun top, but not sure how it's looking with the sweater here. Sorry about the blurry/chopped off head photo. In a bit of a rush that morning.

Top: Limited
Sweater: Old Navy
Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Wet Seal
Flats: Payless
Necklace: Gift
Purse: Gift

Day 8: Went with a more relaxed/casual outfit today. My first choice would've been sweats and/or a Snuggie, but probably not so work appropriate.

Top: Loft
Khaki Slacks: JCrew
Boots: Madden Girl
Necklace: Gift
Cami: Target

I always find spring to be such a challenge. The weather can be anywhere from 40's and freezing to 80's and humid, but I generally want to dress 'for the season'. Do you have any great tricks for looking springy even on the days that feel more like winter?

  1. Hello! Saw you on SpearmintBaby and am now following. Hope you can return the love ;)

About the color for your outfits, I find that adding a funky scarf (thin one for summer) or a pop of color with earrings, a purse, or shoes works great. And as they say on What Not To Wear, "it doesn't have to match, it just has to go".

  2. cool pictures! Thanks for sharing. I've often thought about sharing what I wear but it's the same thing every day (well except for sunday)....tye dye and jeans. People would probably think I don't ever change clothes. LOL!

P.S. I came from the Alexa Blog Hop.
