A Mid Century Modern Mood

Another Nestie in need, Jenny, wrote this today:

Hi everyone- I would love some advice on my house. My husband and I have been collecting mid-century furniture for the past couple of years, slowly finding pieces at thrift stores, garage sales, Craigslist, etc. Our furniture is nice but everything is still so blah looking:

Any suggestions are welcome. We don't have the money to do expensive renovations or buy new furniture now, but we can always add paint and accessories. I want to keep the mid-century look but warm it up a bit, make it more homey and not so plain.

We're not afraid of color at all, I just don't know where to begin in choosing a color. My husband always tends to gravitate towards rusty oranges, browns and greens, but I'm not quite so keen on his choices. It always ends up looking very modern and masculine, I'd like to mix in a little more of a traditional look that's a tad more feminine/softer.

Thanks!

Jenny

So I got cookin' on a mid century idea board for Jenny's space on the cheap. Here's what I came up with:

So there you have it - a warm mid century modern living room for under $500!

Paint - Behr
Mobile - Ebay
Lamp - West Elm
Furniture - Client's
Pillows - Target
Rug - Overstock
Sunburst Mirror - Target
